Our Story
Seven years ago in March 2017 we embarked on a journey to purchase a property located at 16635 E. 14th St. San Leandro for $1,000,000 (our main prayer hall) with seller-carry no-riba loan. By the grace of Allah, ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ, we have paid it off this month, April 2024.
The Project
By Allah’s will, the property behind the masjid is up for sale. It is a 23,000 sq ft lot with 4 apartments and 1 house. Our plan is to use this property as a source of steady income for the masjid while we’re paying off the loan balance. Once it’s paid off or when the masjid can afford it financially, we plan to convert the 4-unit apartments into Islamic school.
The purchase price of $1,584,000 although it is appraised for $1,700,000. By the grace of Allah we have managed to raise $335k in qard-hasana towards purchasing the property.
We need $1,2M more to complete the purchase
Our Achievements:
During the 7 years, with the help of Allah,
- We paid the monthly and balloon payments towards masjid property on time
- Renovated and paid off the contractors
- Paid off qard-hasana
- Various maintenance repairs including fixing the roof
- The congregation had grown so much that we must
- Re-rent the old masjid for sister’s prayer area
- and erect additional structure
- Bought 1350 Elgin St house for our imam residence.

- Shaded in green: are the properties that currently are under Masjid Al-Farooq administration. It includes:
- Main prayer hall and a house that the masjid rents out
- Sister’s prayer hall – this used to be the old masjid
- Imam residence – we purchased this property last year
- Shaded in yellow: This is the property that we plan to purchase. Its location is very strategic to the masjid long term growth as both source of steady monthly income as well as a building for future Islamic school.
- Benefits to the Community: Acquiring this property will ensure the masjid’s future growth and minimizing potential complains from apartment residence behind the masjid. Moreover, we currently only have one exit as shaded in blue. It would be a great benefit to have a second exit shaded in red that will ease congestion and make easier access to the masjid since most will park in surrounding streets for Jumah
